The US celebrated the 250th anniversary of its independence on July 4th, 2026. To mark this milestone, award winning oil artist Selva Ozelli has painted the Flags of Science CCL for the cafeteria of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University (LDEO) to celebrate LDEO’s contributions to earth science featuring four flags:

Ocean Lovers – To the Core Flag CCL

Tree of Life/Tectonic Flag CCL

Atmosphere Flag CCL

Space Flag CCL

Selva Ozelli’s Flag CCL series have been endorsed by Freedom 250 which is a national initiative launched by President Donald Trump to lead the celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence on July 4, 2026. It is a public-private partnership aimed at honoring U.S. history, fostering patriotism, and highlighting innovation.
