Data for Pandemic Preparedness: New Approaches for Medical Countermeasure (MCM) Delivery

At Airfinity, our mission is to use data to improve health outcomes and increase the global lifespan. A first of its kind disease forecasting company, Airfinity has built a unique and propriety data set on population level health, working with stakeholders across the public health sphere to inform better decision making.

Our work supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals of ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all, at all ages, as well as reducing inequality within and among countries.

We focus on topics including preemptive health, health economics and inequality, as well as disease prevalence, outbreak risk assessments, pandemic preparedness and medical countermeasures.

For the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Science Summit we are proposing a roundtable discussion that will focus on how we can better use data for pandemic preparedness, with a specific look at new approaches to medical countermeasure (MCM) delivery.

Airfinity has a strong history of tracking pandemics, having built the world’s first dedicated COVID-19 data platform and boasts a highly comprehensive biorisk surveillance solution. We track over 160 infectious diseases to provide risk assessments, simulating and predicting disease outcomes for different populations. Using insights from our platform, our UNGA session will be a holistic, data-driven discussion of pandemic preparedness.

It will stress the importance of disease surveillance and modelling to detect large scale outbreaks of diseases that claim millions of lives, disrupt societies and devastate economies across the globe. We aim to discuss themes including MCM impact modelling and how this can be used to make decisions regarding public health and will involve looking retrospectively at previous public health campaigns and how they can be used to inform better decisions in the future. We have also done extensive deep dives into the effectiveness of wastewater surveillance and its potential ability to track and predict COVID-19 outbreaks.

With wastewater data currently being used in an attempt to track the H5N1 outbreak in cattle herds in the USA, it is an essential tool in the mission to predict the next pandemic. This will be a core theme to be discussed by our panel speakers.

In theme with our holistic approach to pandemic preparedness, our speakers will include a variety of backgrounds to represent the importance of all players within the healthcare industry. These will include lead analysts and scientists from us at Airfinity, as well as key policy makers in government organisations and market specialists at pharmaceutical companies. Through bringing together key opinion leaders to discuss the future of pandemic preparedness it will be a prudent session analysing the current and future disease landscape to inform better decision making and improve global health.
