Enabling Equity through Disability-Inclusive Health Investments
The Missing Billion Initiative, the Clinton Health Access Initiative and the McKinsey Health Institute are hosting a breakfast roundtable to discuss the solutions and collective actions needed to overcome the challenges of achieving disability inclusive healthcare globally.
1 in 6 people have a disability worldwide. Evidence shows that the 1.3 billion people with disabilities face significant health access barriers and poorer health outcomes. They are consistently marginalized when it comes to accessing healthcare services: clinics and health information are not accessible; stigma and prejudice can affect the quality of care; and services are unaffordable. This contributes to a 14-year difference in life expectancy, which can be addressed through greater inclusion in mainstream health programs.
To address this topic, we look forward to discussing the current gaps in funding for disability-inclusive health, hear about solutions trialed by funders, and explore how to catalyze collective action for more inclusion in global health.
Panelists include representatives from the Ford Foundation, Clinton Health Access Initiative, BMZ, Disability Rights Fund and more with moderation from the UN Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Open discussion with fellow health leaders will follow.
The event will take place at the Harvard Club (35 West 44th St, Manhattan, New York) from 8:30 to 10:00am. Breakfast will be served.
