Driving an inclusive green transition – closing the climate girls’ gap

Climate change exacerbates many of the challenges facing girls and women around the world, including barriers to education and economic opportunities. This session emphasizes the urgent need for innovative partnerships, investments, and initiatives that help girls and women become confident climate leaders and active contributors to the green economy, which is expected to add tens of millions of jobs over the next several decades. By investing in girls’ education and imparting digital, leadership and green skills, we can harness the potential of girls and women as leaders in climate action. Join us to learn how empowering girls is not just a matter of equity, but a strategic imperative for a resilient and inclusive green transition.

Key questions to be addressed will include the following:

  • What are some challenges girls and women face in accessing education and, in particular, learning the digital and green skills that would position them as leaders in the new green economy?
  • What are specific examples of successful initiatives or projects that have effectively empowered girls and women with green skills? What were the critical factors that contributed to their success?
  • What role do partnerships between the public and private sector play in creating the system transformation that would better equip girls with key leadership and green skills?
  • How can investing in girls’ education and empowerment contribute to broader environmental and economic goals, particularly in marginalized communities?

This session is hosted by UNICEF.
