A Path Towards Affordable and Effective Antimicrobials: Six Recommendations to Improve Antimicrobial Innovation, Access, and Stewardship
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is associated with almost 5 million deaths a year. It is an urgent health crisis. Fixing the antimicrobial market to ensure sustainable global innovation, access, and stewardship is a key lever in the fight against AMR, especially to address the disproportionate burden of AMR in low- and middle-income countries. A functional, equitable antimicrobial market will also help strengthen pandemic preparedness and response efforts, achieve universal health coverage, and end the tuberculosis epidemic—the health focuses for this year’s United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) High-Level Meetings (HLMs).
Join the Center for Global Development in collaboration with the governments of Nigeria and the United Kingdom on the sidelines of the UNGA for a discussion on AMR one year ahead of the second HLM on AMR. This event will launch the final report for a Center for Global Development working group, which has brought together stakeholders from across the world to discuss both the political and operational steps needed to ensure access to and stewardship of affordable and effective antimicrobials. This discussion will focus on next steps to implement the policy recommendations across the international community as well as build consensus around the collective priorities for next year’s HLM on AMR—a key opportunity to set priorities and accelerate policy change.
A complimentary reception with drinks and canapés will follow the conversation.
