COVID-19 and the role of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in building resilience and sustaining social cohesion and peace
The aim of this high-level event organized by the Netherlands, the Center on International Cooperation, and the g7+ group of conflict-affected countries is to discuss how Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) can help individuals and communities retain or regain resilience, strengthen solidarity and cohesion, address trauma, and foster reconciliation in the context of COVID-19. The event will explore how MHPSS can help counter social disintegration and support efforts to build and sustain peace, and the discussion will contribute to the formal phase of the 2020 UN Peacebuilding Architecture Review. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear that any discussion of building and sustaining peace must recognize the importance of mental health and psychosocial wellbeing.
The virtual event will be chaired by H.E. Ms. Sigrid Kaag, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Netherlands, and United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed will present welcoming remarks. CIC director Sarah Cliffe will moderate the event.
