The Population Council’s Evidence for Gender and Education Resource (EGER) program and Pratham are thrilled to invite you to a webinar to discuss gender inequalities in accessing and within the early childhood education environment, to be held on Wednesday, 6 September 2023, from 9:30 am to 10:45 am EDT.

Early childhood education can bring substantial benefits to children by improving their socioemotional development and school-readiness, and the benefits can last a lifetime. Following the sustainable development goal of universal coverage of at least one year of preschool education, increasingly more low- and middle-income country (LMIC) governments are planning for, or implementing, early childhood education programs. Although this is great progress, the principles of equity and inclusion are often not fully embedded in these policies. Presenters will discuss the importance of early childhood education in LMICs, gender responsive pedagogy, and gender gaps in preschool enrollment in India.

Speakers

  • Nicole Haberland, Senior Associate, Population Council (Chair)
  • Nirmala Rao, Serena H.C. Yang Professor in Early Childhood Development and Education, Professor, Chair of Child Development and Education, Director, Consortium for Research on Early Childhood Development and Education (CORE), The University of Hong Kong
  • Samyukta Subramanian, Co-Lead, Early Years, Pratham Education Foundation, India
  • Arindam Nandi, Associate II, Population Council
  • Dana Schmidt, Program Director, Echidna Giving (Discussant)
