Nature Dependent Exporters- what do they have in common?
Planet Tracker examines those countries dependent on nature and the natural world.
To the financial markets this may better be understood as natural capital – i.e. those parts of the natural world which can each be valued in monetary terms alongside financial, productive, human and social capital. Planet Tracker determined each country’s dependency on nature by examining export data, dividing the world into three groups of exporters: countries with a high, medium or low dependency on nature.
Having identified the ‘Nature Dependent Exporters’ (NDEs). Is the ‘resources curse’ applicable to NDEs? Do these countries demonstrate any common characteristics? Planet Tracker examined ten broad measures ranging from GDP per capita and credit ratings to food security and soil erosion.
