Protection for Resilience: Synergizing SDGs to Achieve Resilient Food Systems

Little progress has been achieved towards ending hunger in Asia Pacific, and the region continues to suffer from regression of Goals 12 and 13. Furthermore, Covid-19 has disrupted major value chains, including critical food value chains and increased people’s vulnerabilities all over the region. The need for resilient food systems is more urgent than ever before. Shifting away from vulnerable and linear food production will be a prerequisite if we want to achieve a just, equal, and sustainable future. Diverse speakers will draw upon interconnections of food systems with sustainable cities and communities, connections between food security, forests and land use, the practice of circularity in agriculture and the preservation of indigenous people’s authentic identity as a vital contribution to biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihood and food security. This discussion will emerge as a cross-sectoral call to action involving and mobilizing youth, the private sector, the academic and research community, civil society and indigenous people to re-think and co-create a new vision for more sustainable, just and resilient food systems. It will consider food security, food justice and food sovereignty as core pillars as a post-Covid recovery strategy.
