
Roadmap to End Plastic Pollution by 2040
The Co-Chairs of the High Ambition Coalition to End Plastic Pollution, H.E Jeanne d’Arc Mujawamariya, Minister of Environment of the Republic of Rwanda and H.E Espen Barth-Eide, Minister of Climate and Environment of Norway, invite to a UNGA77 side-event titled Roadmap to End Plastic Pollution by 2040 with participation from experts and high-level speakers from UN, Government, Civil society and Business. The event will take place in a virtual format on Wednesday 21 Sept 0800-0930 New York time (EDT).
Plastic pollution constitutes a planetary crisis with impacts on ecosystems, biodiversity, the climate and human health.
The High Ambition Coalition to End Plastic Pollution is committed to develop an ambitious international legally binding instrument based on a comprehensive and circular approach that ensures urgent action and effective interventions along the full lifecycle of plastics. Our common ambition is to end plastic pollution by 2040.
This UNGA77 side-event will provide an opportunity to discuss how to define an evidence-based vision and roadmap to End Plastic Pollution by 2040 and developing science-based solutions, insights and policy scenario to achieve it. This could involve looking at the assumptions, enablers, interventions for systems change, standards, policy frameworks, technology and incentives for government, private sector and finance institutions towards this ambition.
