Add to Calendar September 19, 2023 10:30 am September 19, 2023 12:00 pm America/New_York The Central Role of Young People in the Climate Movement

In this workshop we will share why it’s important for young people to be at the forefront of the climate movement in an oppressive society that tells us we’re not important. We will also talk about why our relationships with each other are key in making big changes possible. We will have fun, share our experiences as young people, and connect with each other and our allies.

Young People are a revolutionary force and have been at the forefront of many important social movements. But the lack of respect for young people’s thinking and leadership abilities can mean that the important abilities we have to offer are underutilized. And, we can internalize the lack of respect and fail to take ourselves seriously, despite our many accomplishments. In this workshop, we will:

• Communicate our understandings of young people’s oppression and internalized oppression

• Communicate our vision for young leadership in the environmental movement

• Learn about the theory and practice the tools of Re-evaluation Counseling as a strategy to overcome the effects of young people’s oppression in our individual lives and in the environmental movement
