Africa’s Health Architecture: Optimizing Primary Healthcare as a Path to Equity

As the world prepares for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Africa stands at a pivotal moment. Our continent is navigating shifting geopolitical dynamics, climate change, and significant funding shortfalls.
While there is a clear and present need for a reimagined Health Landscape for Africa, it is still uncertain what that will and should entail. Amref Health Africa holds the belief that there are critical pieces of work that encompass a reimagined Health Landscape for Africa. The most formidable of these, is ensuring that Primary Healthcare is appropriately optimised and founded on equity. This reflects the ambitions outlined in the Lusaka Agenda.

Building on the deliberations from the Africa Health Agenda International Conference in March this year, where strengthening African leadership, health equity and fostering robust partnerships were highlighted as accelerators, Amref Health Africa is convening a closed roundtable discussion on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, to discuss the impact of geopolitical shifts on Africa’s Health Architecture and explore the role of PHC in accelerating progress towards equity for the African people.
