Bridging the divide: non-communicable and infectious diseases in a changing global health landscape

At the 2025 UN General Assembly, where non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and mental health will be key topics, the Mérieux Foundation USA, in partnership with Weill Cornell Medical University, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), NYU, and GHESKIO Centers, will host a special event exploring the intersection of NCDs and infectious diseases.

This event will raise awareness about how non-communicable diseases are impacted by infectious diseases and the repercussions on mental health. Round table discussions will focus on the critical examples of:

  1. Cancer (the link between HPV and cervical cancer as well as hepatitis and liver cancer)

  2. Cardiovascular disease (the link between various infectious diseases such as HIV or SARS-CoV-2 and cardiovascular disease)

By bringing together experts, policymakers, and key stakeholders, we aim to foster dialogue on the long-term health impacts of infectious diseases and advocate for integrated strategies to address cancer- and cardiovascular-related chronic infection in global health policies.

Speakers include:

  • Dr. Jarbas Barbosa (PAHO)
  • Dr. Kevin De Cock (Mérieux Foundation USA)
  • Dr. Dan Fitzgerald (Weill Cornell Medical University)
