Building Resilience and Strengthening Access to Education for Girls in Crisis Settings
As world leaders convene in New York for the UN General Assembly a mere five years from the deadline to achieve the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), girls—especially those in adolescence—in crisis settings around the world continue to face numerous complex and multifaceted barriers to accessing their education, a fundamental human right. Protecting education and ensuring all girls’ access in all contexts improves their lives, helps them grow into empowered adults, and is essential for achieving the SDGs – in particular SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). It also meaningfully contributes to lowering maternal and child mortality rates, and achieving higher lifetime earnings and more inclusive, peaceful societies.
Join us for a panel discussion on the margins of the 80th UN General Assembly to discuss and expound on the challenges and innovations emerging from efforts to improve and protect adolescent girls’ access to education. The evidence and case studies discussed will represent diverse but deeply interconnected struggles for and threats to girls’ education in crisis-affected contexts.
