Climate Justice Summit: People Deliver

Join us for the Climate Justice Summit: People Deliver, a dynamic event kicking off New York Climate Week on September 22nd and 23rd at The Forum at Columbia University. This summit is a powerful convening of climate justice leaders from around the world, focusing on global collaboration and knowledge exchange. This summit aims to catalyze global collaboration to drive progress on climate justice, particularly across the following themes:

Climate Governance and Inclusive Decision-Making: Dive into democratic innovation and policymaking that prioritizes community engagement. This theme highlights the importance of Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) from the Paris Agreement and features participation from National Focal Points sharing best practices.

Sustainable Cities and Food Systems: Explore strategies for urban resilience and the role of subnational governments in advancing climate justice policies. Learn about the work of the HBCU Green Fund in Atlanta and several African countries, including support for the Green Wall initiative.

Loss and Damage: Address mechanisms of redress for communities impacted by climate change, with a session on developing a Climate Reparations Framework.

Nature-Based Solutions: Promote the use of natural systems to address climate challenges. This segment will highlight the social, economic, and environmental benefits of nature-based solutions, especially for vulnerable communities.

Discussions will feature frontline communities, land defenders, international policymakers, researchers, funders, and BIPOC climate justice leaders. The topics will include climate justice implementation strategies, enabling conditions, and the roles of people, policy, pedagogy, and philanthropies in delivering them.

This special gathering is collaboratively hosted by HBCU Green Fund, Donors of Color, Columbia World Projects, ACE Observatory, Open Government Partnership, and Columbia University Climate School.
