US Leadership in the Global #PhilanthropyForClimate Movement
The philanthropic response to the climate crisis must quickly transcend borders. Foundations with national and global focus alike face complex challenges to achieve the scale and pace necessary for systemic impact. Many see the need to embrace international collaboration and coordination. To support this, the #PhilanthropyForClimate movement brings together over 800 foundations from 20+ countries to integrate a climate lens into all philanthropic activities for multifaceted impact. Currently, US foundations represent just over 1% of this movement, a figure that is disproportionately small compared to the amount of climate funding from US foundations both domestically and internationally.
Presented by Climate Group at the Climate Week NYC Hub Live, WINGS and the Council on Foundations are hosting a roundtable discussion on the strengths and challenges of climate philanthropy in the US, opportunities to leverage the sector’s diversity, and the potential to advance global collaboration and further US leadership within the #PhilanthropyForClimate movement.
