Digital Cooperation Day

The second annual Digital Cooperation Day will convene global leaders during the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly to advance implementation of the Global Digital Compact and strengthen international cooperation on artificial intelligence. This year’s programme unites under the theme “Shaping A Global AI Future Through Science, Policy, and Capacity.” It focuses on the artificial intelligence architecture taking shape: science provides the evidence, policy sets the direction, and capacity is what lets countries shape both and act on them. The programme places Member States and their experience at the centre. Countries are not passive recipients of technology. Across regions, governments and partners are investing in infrastructure and talent, and building the governance frameworks that let technology serve national priorities. Digital Cooperation Day will highlight practical approaches to capacity-building, digital public infrastructure, financing and partnerships so that all countries can participate in and shape the AI economy Through high-level discussions, technical exchanges, and partnership-building sessions, Digital Cooperation Day will bring together governments, the UN system, industry, academia, civil society, and the technical community to translate global commitments into practical action.

Objectives

• Advance international cooperation on AI through science, policy, and capacity-building.

• Support implementation of the Global Digital Compact through dialogue, partnerships, and country-led initiatives.

• Explore practical solutions to narrow the AI divide through capacity-building, digital public infrastructure, and innovative financing.

• Foster collaboration among governments, industry, academia, civil society, and the technical community to advance responsible AI and digital cooperation.

• Catalyse new partnerships and initiatives that strengthen AI governance and capacity-building beyond UNGA81.

Format and Agenda

Digital Cooperation Day will feature a full-day programme of high-level plenary sessions, thematic discussions, technical workshops, networking opportunities, and partnership announcements. The programme will be organized around three interconnected pillars:

Science

• Exploring the latest scientific evidence and emerging research informing AI governance, including insights from the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI.

Policy

• Advancing international dialogue on AI governance, interoperability, digital public infrastructure, and implementation of Global Digital Compact commitments.

Capacity Building

• Showcasing practical approaches to closing the AI divide through national AI strategies, digital public infrastructure, skills development, financing, disaster resilience, local implementation, and international partnerships.
