Environmental Justice in the IV-Special Session on Disarmament: A Youth-Led Workshop

Disarmament is a crucial global priority for conflict prevention, sustainable development, and human security. The last UN Special Session on Disarmament (SSOD-III) took place in 1988, with limited progress. Recognizing the urgent need for a renewed focus, this workshop will explore the critical link between disarmament and environmental justice.

This interactive workshop will provide a space for youth-led organizations, activists, and policymakers to strategize on how to advance the call for a Fourth UN Special Session on Disarmament (IV-SSOD), focusing on the environmental impacts of militarism, and propose innovative approaches to global disarmament challenges. Young people have been essential to these efforts through initiatives like the Youth, Peace, and Security (YPS) agenda, but their participation in decision-making remains limited.
