From Fragility to Opportunity: Locally Led Pathways to Peace, Resilience and Investment in Fragile Contexts

Northwest Nigeria is one of the country’s most strategically important regions, yet it continues to face interconnected challenges including insecurity, displacement, poverty, climate-related pressures and limited access to essential services. In response, the seven Governors of Northwest Nigeria, through the Northwest Governors’ Forum (NWGF) and with technical support from UNDP, adopted the Northwest Peace, Security and Development Framework (2026-2030), a shared regional roadmap for advancing peacebuilding, climate resilience, inclusive economic growth and long-term development.

This high-level side event will bring together Governors, UN leadership, development partners, international financial institutions, philanthropies, private-sector leaders and civil society to present the Framework and explore opportunities for partnership, financing and investment. Discussions will focus on how locally led leadership, regional cooperation and multi-stakeholder partnerships can help translate regional priorities into tangible outcomes for peace, livelihoods, resilience and sustainable development, while contributing to broader global discussions on addressing fragility, climate vulnerability and economic exclusion.
