From G20 to COP30: Lessons and Actions for Industry Decarbonization in the Global South

The event aims to analyze the Brazilian presidency’s approach to industrial decarbonization at the G20, highlighting the main outcomes and conclusions of this strategy. In addition, we will discuss how cooperation among Global South countries can accelerate this process, identifying essential international partnerships to achieve decarbonization goals. Another central point of the event will be the discussion on which topics Brazil should prioritize at COP30 and how the lessons from the G20 can be directly applied to the discussions. Opportunities for Brazil to lead the global decarbonization agenda will be highlighted, as well as the main challenges the country faces in assuming this leadership role. Financing will also be an important topic, with debates on the role of development banks in funding decarbonization projects and the exploration of alternative sources of resources for these initiatives. Additionally, concrete actions that can be immediately implemented in Brazil to advance industrial decarbonization will be proposed, addressing the main challenges to their implementation. Finally, the event will address how the decentralization of the production chain can benefit Global South countries, bringing to light the strategic opportunities that arise from this shift. This event will highlight Brazil’s opportunities and challenges in taking on a leadership role in global decarbonization and the strategic partnerships necessary for sustainable progress.
