From Ideas to Trust-Based Collaboration: Scaling African Women Innovators
Africa’s ingenuity is thriving at the grassroots—driven by women and young leaders who are crafting bold, context-rooted solutions to the continent’s most pressing challenges. What remains scarce are the trust-based pathways and sustained support needed to scale these innovations beyond small pilots and into systems that transform communities and economies. Traditional models of aid remain dominant, yet they often reinforce dependency and limit the leadership of those closest to the challenges. A shift is needed: from aid to trust-based approaches, from short-term project cycles to long-term systems change, and from narratives of vulnerability to narratives of agency, resilience, and ingenuity.
This is where Pathfinder International and Akili Dada come together. Pathfinder brings 65 years of experience in community-led health and development and a new strategic focus through Women&Co, its social innovation platform dedicated to supporting women-led solutions across health, climate, and leadership. Akili Dada, meanwhile, is one of Africa’s most dynamic feminist leadership organizations, cultivating adolescent girls and young women to become the continent’s next generation of change-makers.
By bridging Pathfinder’s global reach and Akili Dada’s grassroots leadership pipeline, this partnership exemplifies the very values Spotlight Africa was created to champion: African-led ingenuity, cross-sectoral collaboration, and practical solutions that shift and share power.
This session will not be another policy dialogue. Instead, it will be a hands-on workshop that connects women innovators with donor partners investors and philanthropists, showcases tangible African solutions, and generates concrete pathways for scaling impact.
