Global Health Education as a Pathway to Achieving the SDGs: Case Studies from Partner Countries
Global health education plays a pivotal role in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to health (SDG 3), quality education (SDG 4), and reducing inequalities (SDG 10). This session—“Global Health Education as a Pathway to Achieving the SDGs: Case Studies from Partner Countries”—will explore how investments in health education, international partnerships, and bidirectional learning models drive equity and sustainability. Hosted by the Majid Sadigh, MD Global Health Academy at Nuvance Health, the session will feature case studies from partner institutions in Uganda, Zimbabwe, India, the Philippines, the Dominican Republic, and Armenia.
These will showcase scalable models that empower local faculty, train future health leaders, and build institutional capacity in low- and middle-income countries. Key session objectives include: • Demonstrating how global health education accelerates SDG progress through capacity building and knowledge exchange. • Showcasing bidirectional partnerships that uplift leadership from low-resource settings. • Highlighting how global health education fosters resilience, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. • Identifying barriers and policy recommendations for integrating health education into national development strategies. Speakers from high-income and LMIC institutions will offer diverse insights on the role of education in strengthening health systems. Emphasis will be placed on intercultural learning, decolonizing global health, and LMIC-to-LMIC collaborations—offering a more equitable vision for global health. Through these case studies, the session emphasizes education as a powerful tool not just for knowledge, but for sustainable development, cross-cultural understanding, and global solidarity. Education is presented as a form of health intervention that builds human capital, supports local leadership, and enables communities to address health challenges in sustainable and self-directed ways. This session aligns with the Science Summit’s broader focus on applying research and innovation to solve global challenges, and will contribute actionable ideas and replicable models linking education, equity, and health.
