High-Level Malaria Press Conference: Sustaining Finance to Deliver the Big Push Against Malaria

The President of the Republic of Botswana and Chair of African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA), President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko, will host a press conference in partnership with the African Union Commission and the RBM Partnership to End Malaria. This press conference will address the growing challenges facing malaria elimination on the African continent.

The event will address the impact of the perfect storm of threats, including climate change, insecticide and drug resistance, humanitarian crises and the financing gaps made worse by recent reductions in donor funding.

This includes a focus on the importance of a successful Global Fund replenishment this year; innovative financing mechanisms, such as public and private sector domestic resource mobilisation through End Malaria Councils and Funds, broader private sector resource mobilisation, and support from the World Bank International Development Association.

Through the compelling Change the Story campaign film, the press conference will also amplify the voices of children – the most vulnerable to malaria. This campaign captures powerful stories from children on malaria’s impact on their lives, highlighting the human cost of the disease, underscoring the urgent need for action.
