Raising the Alarm: End Preventable Child Deaths from Wasting Now
Today, the humanitarian and development sectors are grappling with increasing numbers of child wasting, famine declarations and grave warnings, at the same time as funding cuts and a humanitarian reset. The Wasting Advocacy Coalition and Global Nutrition Cluster have developed to raise the alarm for 2026 about how aid cuts will lead to preventable child deaths from wasting next year. This event will profile the statement and discuss opportunities in the current landscape to increase the effectiveness of funding for wasting treatment and prevention. We must act early to reduce the number of children affected by wasting and bend down that curve over the long-term through increased impact and efficiency.
