Resource-Conscious Funding: The Funding Footprint Calculator

With a $4.3 trillion annual funding gap to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and widespread aid cuts, resources in the social sector are urgently strained—while more essential than ever. We must do more, while accepting the reality of having to do so with less. This makes it imperative that we address the inefficiencies in our current funding processes.

Led by Dr. Nadait Gebremedhen, Co-Chair of the Shifting the Funding Paradigm Working Group at Catalyst Now, this session introduces the Funding Footprint Calculator, a tool that makes inefficiencies in grantmaking and other competition-based funding models visible and measurable.

Participants will explore:

  1. The hidden costs of the current funding paradigm
  2. How to measure and reduce the resource “footprint” of funding application processes
  3. Practical strategies to maximize impact without increasing inefficiency

This session is a call to action for funders to reimagine how we allocate scarce resources. Attendees will leave with a tangible tool and actionable strategies to make grantmaking more resource-conscious and effective.

Ideal for: Funders and anyone responsible for allocating financial resources.
