Restoring ourselves for the final 6 weeks of election organizing
Many of us have been working on the 2024 U.S. election along with working to end the climate emergency. We can feel discouraged, depleted, “done,” and the election is still six weeks away. Join us for some restorative time. We will use the tools of Sustaining All Life/United to End Racism (SAL/UER) to drain away some of the stress we’ve accumulated and unleash renewed enthusiasm for the final push.
Many people working to end the climate emergency are understandably also working on the U.S. elections. Most climate scientists currently predict global temperatures to rise to at least 2.5°C (4.5°F) above pre-industrial levels this century. When asked “what is the most effective action individuals can take?”, most experts (76%) backed voting for politicians who pledge strong climate measures, where fair elections take place.
SAL/UER will offer events during NYC Climate Week supporting the efforts of those working in the elections. At this workshop, we will offer tools for personal healing from the feelings of burn-out, discouragement, frustration, and more that many of us are feeling from working on the 2024 elections all summer. Join us to learn restorative practices that will refresh you and help you stay engaged through November 5th.
In this workshop we will:
- Create safe spaces to talk, listen and support each other
- Openly face the current situation that can cause discouragement, anxiety, anger, and hopelessness
- Share perspectives that we have developed and learned that have helped us to maintain a sense of hope and possibility
- Introduce some practices and tools that all participants can choose to use going forward that can help us maintain hope no matter how upsetting the daily news cycle
Followed by one hour listening circle.
