The Executive Series 2024 – Advancing Renewable Energy in Latin America: The Role of Businesses and Subnational Governments

Latin America has already proven itself to be a driving force in the global effort to embrace renewables, with 60% of electricity generation coming from renewables according to the IEA. While this is a positive step in the right direction, the region’s ambition should not be limited. This session will highlight the pivotal role of businesses and subnational governments in advancing renewable energy across Latin America. It explores how national regulations can incentivize the achievement of renewable energy targets and how policy instruments—such as carbon pricing—can accelerate this momentum. We will examine how corporates are fostering greater ambition in this arena and how they can seek to escalate renewable adoption across the board to the benefit of economies across the region. By engaging extensively with businesses in the region and fostering collaboration among all these stakeholders we can encourage the further adoption of renewable energy commitments in Latin America.
