The Future Girls Want: Advancing Transformative Actions for Adolescent Girls and Youth

The youth advocates of Plan International, along with the Government of Canada, the Government of Guatemala, the Government of South Africa, the Government of Sierra Leone, the Government of the United States of America, and UN Women, UNICEF, the World Bank, as well as partners SheDecides, Adolescent Girls Investment Plan (AGIP), the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH) and Terre des Hommes, are pleased to be co-hosting an in-person Summit of the Future Youth Action Day side event.

The UN Summit of the Future is a pivotal moment that presents the opportunity to recalibrate the future of global governance and sustainable development. As we look ahead to the challenges and opportunities that the world will encounter, it is imperative that the needs and perspectives of all demographics, especially adolescent girls and young people, are integrated in the political outcomes of the Summit.
To this end, Plan International and its partners have been advocating during the months leading up to the Summit for Member States to prioritize and commit to 8 Transformative Actions for Adolescent Girls and Young People. These Actions, taken from the revised drafts of the Pact for the Future, have been identified by young people and their allies to be most transformative for adolescent girls and young people. These are based on young people’s vision for a gender-equal future as outlined in the Girls’ Pact for the Future, and their recommendations to achieve it.
This event will seek to present 8 Transformative Actions for adolescent girls and young people – and chart a path for implementing these actions in the months and years following the Summit. Please join us to hear from girls and young people themselves on their priorities and be part of increasing the political momentum and accountability on advancing gender equality and girls’ rights at the Summit and beyond.
