The Tipping Point: A New Era for Global Health Leadership at UNGA 2025

A high-level UNGA 2025 event convening African leaders, global partners, civil society, and youth leaders to reimagine global health through bold leadership, cross-sector collaboration, and the power of Africa’s next generation.
Event Background
The world is at a crossroads. From pandemics and climate-driven health crises to growing inequalities and shrinking aid budgets, global health faces a moment of reckoning. Nowhere is this more urgent, or more full of possibility, than in Africa, home to the world’s youngest population, where over 70% of the population is under the age of 30. This generation is not just the future; they are the present. And with the right investment and platforms, they can lead a revolution in global health thinking, delivery, and impact.
A coalition of African and global health partners will convene a high-level event during the 2025 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York as part of a continent-wide effort to redefine global health leadership, catalyze next-generation solutions, and mobilize political will to invest in Africa’s health future.
This high-level gathering will spotlight how political leadership, strategic partnerships, and private-sector innovation can translate the ambitions of the African Union Agenda 2063, Africa CDCs #NewPublicHealthOrder, the 2030 UN SDGs, and WHO’s vision for Universal Health Coverage into action, transforming today’s crises into a launchpad for long-term health resilience.
This event marks a turning point: a bold conversation on legacy, urgency, and opportunity. As traditional aid models unravel and global institutions are tested, we must lean into bold political leadership, fresh ideas, and the energy of a rising generation ready to lead a new era in health innovation. The goal is not just to navigate this moment of crisis, but to turn it into a historic opportunity to reshape what global health looks like: led by Africans, driven by youth, and powered by innovation.
