Translating the Gender Equality and Women’s Rights Commitments of the Pact of the Future into Transformative Action

The UN Summit of the Future will culminate in the adoption of the “Pact of the Future,” a comprehensive agreement designed to revitalize the United Nations and initiate a reform process across the organization’s key pillars: peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights. Central to this Pact are robust commitments to gender equality and women’s rights, recognizing their essential role in fostering a just, peaceful, and equitable societies and building more effective and accountable institutions, including the United Nations. These commitments underscore strategies to ensure women’s representation and leadership in all spheres of decision-making, and in the UN reform processes envisaged in the Pact.

The panel aims to provide a dialogue platform to translate the gender equality and women’s rights commitments of the Pact of the Future into concrete UN reform initiatives. The objectives of the Panel are:

1. Discuss the Commitments: Review the specific gender equality and women’s rights commitments outlined in the Pact of the Future.

2. Identify Challenges: Examine potential obstacles to implementing these commitments at national and international levels.

3. Establish a roadmap for action and accountability mechanisms: Develop follow-up and accountability mechanisms to ensure the implementation of commitments on women’s rights and gender equality of the Pact of the Future
